All in all I find Shotcut to be an excellent alternative to any of the free video editors out there that I have tried. I do appreciate the fact that this software is updated on a regular basis and all the hard work which goes into software like this. There are a few more minor items, but not worth mentioning here. Of course if the problem is the computer or OS I am running, then they probably will never work right. Now I don’t know if these are truly bugs or it just has to do with the system I’m running on, but those are not enough to get me to stop using it and I figure at some time in the future these problems will be addressed. I’ve learned to space it out a good bit further than I want it to appear and this takes care of the problem most of the time. I set the spacing to where I want it, but after rendering the text will move closer together, most of the time overlapping. Then I move the video clip on the timeline and click on the empty area and then back to the clip, now the fade in will work just fine.Īnother annoying one has to do with the 3D text. If I try to add a fade in to a video clip I’ve just added, the filter just doesn’t take. ![]() ![]() There are a few “bugs” that I have learned to work around since I’ve been using it, one of the most annoying is not being able to use a fade in filter on a video clip without first moving it around a bit on the timeline. This will separate the video: The object with the video track is on the upper track (1) and the audio track is on the lower track (2). I’m still not sure I will continue to use Shotcut, but until something comes along that I totally don’t agree with I will probably stay with it. Right-click on the video and select 'Video/Audio on separate tracks'. I used Windows Movie Maker before switching to SMS 13 and while it doesn’t do a lot of special effects, it’s a pretty good basic editor. I’ve now been using it since late September of last year and although it’s not perfect, it is pretty good for a free editor. I only meant to use it for a few videos and then go back to SMS 13, but the more I used it, the more I liked it. I have a YouTube channel where I post mostly electronics videos and I figured maybe someone might benefit from a good free video editor. I started using Shotcut after seeing it on one of those best free software videos that are on YouTube. My previous editor was Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum and it worked very well for me. I use it on an HP Probook 6550B with 4 Gb of memory running Windows 7 Ultimate. He asked how to regain the independent control.Good day to everyone, just decided to give my views of how well Shotcut performs for me. Crellin's problem was that his multiple input tracks ended up on the same track in Vegas, which prevented independent control of them. Edit any type of material, create video composites and add motion graphics in one comprehensive platform. I think you'll be a lot more comfortable with what's going on if you stop thinking "stereo" or "two channels", and instead think "multitrack", since that's what's really going on here. Whether you’re making content for social media or the big screen, the brand-new VEGAS Pro is the only video editing tool you’ll ever need. ![]() ![]() However, even this simple operation cannot be completed in Vegas without splitting the two channels into separate tracks. Follow these steps to separate the audio from your video: Open Movie Studio Platinum and drag & drop your video from the Media Pool to import it. I like to pan the the channels partially toward center so that there's a nice even blended mix across the stereo spectrum. What i often end up with when close-mic recording small musical groups is one channel has only two of the performers while the other channel has only the other two. Panning aside, what if one wants to add different EQ to each mic? Or add EQ to one and compression and reverb to the other? Or even simply ride gain on one without affecting the other? Can't do any of these when they're on the same track. You don't want to pan both channels to the left when only one actor moves. Select the one that you want to get the audio on multiple tracks. Note the top lines: If you have multichannel audio in a video clip, right-click the audio part and look at the top two lines in the image below. Or maybe there are two performers with wireless mics who move around independently of each other you'd want to follow both, but independently. If you right-click the audio part of a VA object, you'll see this. Here's an example, and i'm not saying this has anything to do with Crellin's original question, but his question *could* cover this situation: What if one mic is center stage picking up ambient, while the other mic is on the performer, who wanders around the stage? You'd want to be able to pan the performer's mic to follow him as he wanders, but not pan the other. Well, for one thing, independent panning! You can't create separate pans for each channel when they're on the same track.
